IBM Installation Manager - Now on the web

Now this falls into the category of something that I just did NOT know :-)

One of my ISSW colleagues kindly pointed out that, with the latest 1.8.1 version, IBM Installation Manager is now available ..... as a web-based application :-)

This has a variety of use-cases, including the ability to access IIM in GUI-mode without having access to the remote server's console i.e. removing the need to have X11 installed and tunnel X11 over SSH.

I downloaded IIM 1.8.1 from here: -

unpacked it: -

unzip /mnt/hgfs/Downloads/agent.installer.linux.gtk.x86_64_1.8.1000.20141126_2002.zip -d /tmp/iim

and installed it using a simple response file ( see the end of this post ): -

/tmp/iim/tools/imcl -input installIIM181.rsp

Once installed, I verified the version: -

/opt/IBM/InstallationManager/eclipse/tools/imcl listInstalledPackages

com.ibm.cic.agent_1.8.1000.20141126_2002

/opt/IBM/InstallationManager/eclipse/tools/imcl version

Installation Manager (installed)
Version: 1.8.1
Internal Version: 1.8.1000.20141126_2002
Architecture: 64-bit

and then started the web "server": -

/opt/IBM/InstallationManager/eclipse/web/ibmim-web

IBM Installation Manager web server has started at: http://192.168.8.251:9090/ibmim

With that, I was then able to hit IIM straight away: -

Nice one, Simmo

installIIM181.rsp
